Dillon, Florida is pushing hard to get elders who are on Medicaid out of Nursing Homes and into managed home care. Sunshine Health is making wonderful promises to people. Florida expects to save millions in Medicaid costs. They will still take the house and lien on the estate.
Oh CT is where they have a great caregivers place. I called but htey wont come out of CT. My sons friends Mom got a live in full time African woman to take care of his Mom. Its $50 thousand a year, cheaper that a nursing home, and he said she cant do enough for his mom, she is wonderful. They are only $120 for 24 hours also which I would love on weekends.I would love someone sat and sunday fulltime, someone who is really great so I can have a life of freedom on weekends.
Reversroles, at least where my mom resides, in Connecticut, you enter as a private pay patient and transition to medicaid if you run out of funds. There is no distinction made between the private pay and Medicaid patients.
medicare will only pay if there is like an open wound, or something temporary that needs a nurse. Medi"caid" is what pays for skilled nursing care when they are out of money. I agree with 4grace, you are better off with home caring. A State funded nursing home is nothing like a private nursing home, or private care. My mom is incontinent, cannot walk or talk or see and is covered for NOTHING but medicare except medications. Wouldnt you think they could help me out for god sakes? I pay someone to help me every morning.(with moms ss) and our money when needed of course, for supplies. What a shame huh.
Medicare will pay for the care that the person needs, such as nursing care for a wound or a physical therapist. Medicare will not pay for ongoing & infinite home health aids or anything like that. And they won't pay for 24/7 home care. They may pay for an aid to come in for an hour or two 3 days a week to help give a bath/shower & feed a meal.
In our state ohio everytime my dad goes in the hospital they give him homecare when he is released it's only a nurse that comes in to see him maybe twice a week one hour and occupational and physical therapy but for one hour through medicare but it's only temporary up to them how long
Medicare covers skilled nursing home or home care but only if you meet certain conditions. This government program can cover professional service of your therapist or nurse at home. However, this is very limited and not around-the-clock care. The number of hours that Medicare cover is only 35 hours per week. It's best to explore your other options like Medicaid or long-term care insurance if you will need long term care for an extended period of time since Medicare provides very limited benefits.
Check with the florida area age on aging. Your mother my be eligible. My father was received home health care services after being in a skilled nursing facility. And I removed him from the nursing home bc he was not getting the type of quality care he deserved. He received intermittent care via home health care services three times a day for four hours...until we incitated hospice three years later.
