He is on SSI. He has a life estate deed to mom's house. I told the insurance company to put the insurance in my brothers name. They won't put policy in trust name. But at last minute they said do you want policy in your name? What if I have to make a claim? I don't live there and don't want to be involved. Brother is hard to deal with.

Your brothers name should be on the home insurance if he lives there and his name is on the deed.

Not in your name. Opens you up in case of a liability claim. The policy holder is suppose to live there for HO policy.

I agree, as a former insurance agent, the policy owner and home owner should be the same. They should put in name of trust if that's how property is deeded & can list others who have an interest in property (your brother and you if you have any legal interests to protect you from liability claim) Was your brother there to sign policy? Maybe that's what agent meant was bc they aren't speaking to brother they can't list him?? Check around and make sure it's done correctly because I the event if a claim it could be denied. It's no different than if I had a policy on your house. They wouldn't pay bc I have no legal interests in your home. HTH!

The insurance needs to be in the same name as the title of the house,or your claim could be denied because you do not own the home (insurable interest). If his company will not add the name of the trust, check another company - I have seen this done in the trust name

The bank that manages my mothers trust (PNC) actually has its own insurance provider. They took over the insurance for her home. Might talk to your brothers bank?

No way! From what you described I don't blame you for not wanting to be involved. Ensuring someone else's house is just like ensuring someone else's car because of something happens to it, you're the one not only paying the insurance, but you're also responsible for any other expenses. Someone I once knew couldn't legally drive but he wanted a car. He was going to put it in his name and have me insure it. Something about it just didn't feel right and I told him I won't insure a vehicle I don't own and it must be in my name. Of course he was mad but it's a good thing I said no because he could've caused damage to the car and stuck me with the expense. Insuring someone else's car is something I just won't do because when you're on fixed income, you need your money for your own car and not someone else's. It's the same rule for a house, don't ensure someone else's house unless you're willing and financially able to take responsibility for the expenses. If he's on SSI, his name should be on the insurance policy, so I don't see why the name of a trust is mentioned, I just don't understand that one. The name of the individual is the one whose name should be on the policy because they're financially responsible for the insurance payments.

the insurance industry has been redundant for the last 30 years and the sensed it long ago . they would put anyones name on a policy if it meant financial obligation to them . they are a fraud and i cant wait for the day that have to compete for real jobs.

The trust is paying the insurance bills. They listed the trust as an something. Cant rember what. But my brother is the name the insurance is in. The whole reason for using my name instead of his is he can't get claim payments. His SSI will be reduced for a time if that happens. He is just going to have to live with it. And the hassell of geting full payments started again. Not big chance of claims anyway.
