My wife spent 3 weeks at a Hospital in San Diego after she contracted a nasty Pneumonia. She was one week in the Hospital ICU and they were able to stabilize her after intubating her for 4 days. Her fever was eliminated and the Hospital told me she needed Rehabilitation Facilities to keep on helping her. At the Hospital the doctors called me daily letting me know of how she was doing. We selected a Rehab facility close to where we live. She has been there for 8 days and even though the nurses are lovely I have not been called by the Doctor that takes care of my wife. I need to ask him a very important question regarding my wife's care. What should I do?

Most doctors group have an online patient portal where you can see test results and communicate with the doctor. I used patient portal frequently with my husband’s doctors and it worked well. You can ask very specific questions and the doctor or nurse will respond.

Aso the nurses, specifically the nurse-manager on your wife's unit or the Director of Nursing how to contact the doctor. The Director of Nursing may also be able to answer the important question you have.

I found that in mom's nursing home, the nurses were very much in charge. The doctor signed off on the orders but it was the Nurse Practitioners and RNs who held the real positions of power.

Call the doctor. Keep calling. Be polite.

You could also try emailing the question for the doctor's attention.

Or, you could perhaps ask somebody else the question. There aren't many that no one else can answer, unless it's about a report that doctor has made, or a prescription that doctor has ordered.

I hope your wife's condition continues to improve?

Fanydog,
I totally agree with CM & Linda!
I have 15 years as a medical professional and my hubby is a Doctor.
These are extraordinary times and medical staff is stretched thin.
The squeaky wheel does get the grease!
Yes, be polite cuz you also catch more flies with honey than vinegar.
As my Aunts POA, I have been able to have several phone appointments with her Kaiser Doctor.
It's possible that there is only one Doctor in the rehab. Maybe talk to the charge nurse. If she/he doesn't have the answers for you, they may be able to get answers.
Stay strong and stay the course!!
God bless!!
