Find Care & Housing
Unfortunately, dementia does not get any better. It gets worse. My mom has been on two different drugs to prevent symptoms and neither of them worked. Some days are easier than others. My mom seemed in really great spirits today and I caught a glimpse of what she was like before the dementia took over, but it didn't last long. I was more frustrated than ever when I left her tonight.

I think that sometimes, there may be a day or two where the dementia patient seems more focused, recalls more names or even has better mobility, but, it doesn't last long and the person will return back to their earlier state. I see glimpses of this with my LO, but, then the next visit and all of that is gone.

No, it is a progressive disease with no cure. There are meds that can help treat symptoms.

The basic answer is No. Dementia gets worse. Always.

Medications can help with symptoms, and although the dementia is progressing in the brain, life may be somewhat more peaceful for a while.

My husband (LBD) actually did get much better after the first several months. I asked how this could possibly be. The doctors thought that in addition to dementia he was experiencing inflammation in the brain. When the inflammation went down the symptoms that were due to that cause also went away.

Sorry, but male or female, it makes no difference. As others have mentioned here, Dementia is a progressive disease of the brain, and there is no "cure" for it or recovery from it.

There are medications that may somewhat slow the progression of the disease, but they will not stop or cure it.

You should also be aware that any severe illness, a bad fall or a hospital stay can dramatically increase the dementia symptoms, or cause new symptoms to appear. It's not known precisely why this happens, but if someone has even mild dementia (mild enough that no one notices it), something like a hospital stay or an injury/illness can cause a dramatic change in their symptoms. I'm just adding this because it may happen, and at least you'll be somewhat prepared.

Unfortunately, there is no getting better. The person (man or woman) will progress (at their own speed) through the various stages of dementia (1-7), progressively getting worse as the disease progresses, until it kills them or they pass from other causes.I'm sorry.
