Find Care & Housing
Char, I would contact the hospitals in the area; in SE Michigan I've found that they're more likely to have support groups, although some care facilities do as well.

Some years ago I did a lot of searching to find support groups in general, and found that U of M and St. Joseph's Hospital in Ann Arbor had the best range and selection, more so than hospitals in Oakland County. If I remember correctly, there were multiple sites in and around Washtenaw County, but there might have been groups in other adjacent counties as well.

As you probably know, Henry Ford Hospital has a progressive facility in W. Bloomfield. There are some groups, but I don't recall whether or not there's a dementia support group.

However, and this might help: The Area Agency on Aging in conjunction with the Alzheimer's Assn. sponsors a "Creating Confident Caregivers" free 6 week class. It addresses not only dementia, but a lot of peripheral issues that affect older people whether dementia is involved or not. It was an excellent class, and wonderful to be with other caregivers while nibbling on fresh breakfast desserts.

I still have the handouts and refer to them periodically. I posted some information on this class elsewhere; I just checked and found that some of the posts evolved into discussion of support groups in other areas. It's worth checking out.

The CCC course was held at several different locales in Oakland County; I don't recall whether any were in Wayne County. But you could call the AAA 1-B, or the local Alz. Assn., which has an office I believe in Southfield.
