I just lost my Father... He was receiving both Aid & Attendance as well as his Army Pension...his checks were direct deposited durning the first few days of every month. Will he be getting one more check at the beginning of November paying for October or are the checks that are deposited at the beginning of the month paid for that month? He is divorced and I am his only child at 53 years old... I just don't want to spend any money that may have too be returned at some point on funeral expenses etc...

There will be a clawback if he did not live for full month. Once SSA is notified of the death, then it filters through systems that uses SS# is a key identifier, so everybody with any federal tie in will know probably within 2 weeks. Clawback is automatic if payments were direct deposit too. The NH told me that they need to live to the end of the 3rd day of the month in order for the NH not to have to return the checks they (NH) get for the residents who NH is beneficiary payee.

I'd suggest you call the bank Monday AM & speak with a bank officer to see if the account can continue to stay open. For my moms account, I'm a signature on her account & went back in August (moms in hospice now 16 mos so realistically it's soon) to the bank to make sure it can stay open. I'm doing this as I want a local bank to be able to use for checks related to probate or other costs & didn't want account frozen. All good hopefully. Dealing with frozen account is tedious.......

I'm confused... I'm not asking if the N H will be returning the check...what I would like to know is if the USArmy Retirement and the VA Aid & Attendance checks that were direct deposited in the beginning of the month into his checking account payment for the month of October or payment for September? IE will he be getting one last check in the beginning of November which is his October pay or are the checks issued for the month they are paying for....????
