Closing our eyes while we take a bite..this is new just started a week ago. I've noticed while we're out at our favorite chicken place and buffet place, chicken sandwich bun and all cut long strip then short strip then in half again.at the buffet meatloaf smashed up lik mash potatoes.when I point it out she says I've always done this .i know she hasn't been doing this for a while.but I don't argue it's not even a big deal.but she's starting to wear more than she eats .is it time for me to cut it up for her or should I just not worry about it.and now the closing of the eyes usually it's when she eats yogurt,or soup.help in spray n wash land

The eye closing while eating could be a sign of myasthenia gravis. MG is a neuromuscular deficit which could affect chewing, swallowing and cutting up food, since these all involve voluntary use of muscles. Ask the MD to test for it.

I agree with GA its unusual for this to be sudden. mum doesn't really like eating much - something I did not inherit from her sadly. She will play with her food to the point I have to walk out of the room - it is sooooooooooooo irritating. SO when Mum plays up I just let it go but this is not what you're describing so ring the doc and ask the question if only to set your mind at rest.

She could have a swallowing difficulty, absorption difficulty and/or some kind of pain when eating. Given the sudden onset I'd get her to a gastroenterologist, or at least start with an internist.

Don't wait on this - it could an early warning sign of something complicated.
