I have had problems with my father who is long distance from me, for quite some time. He hates me for reasons I don't understand. I won't give him my regular phone number, but I give him access to my magic jack number for emergencies, which is never plugged in and he leaves abusive messages on it and threats. He has 2 people taking care of him, more than I will ever have but they don't stop him from threatening. Should I cut him off completely? He does not go for medical care because he doesn't want to get caught with his alcoholism and I have called Adult Protective Services but they won't tell me if he's being taken care of adequately.

Thank you Pam! He only wants to hurt me, so why do I give him the chance to hurt me. I will look for an Al Anon group. Thanks again.

Remove the buttons and get a zipper. Zip your phone, zip your email, zip your ears and change your zip if you have to .

Sounds no different than a child who does bad things to get attention.... it's the attention they want.

Yup, cut him off, delete delete delete. Or set it to FAX and walk away.

What a terrible experience to have your father behaving this way. Maybe it's the alcohol talking. Alcohol can turn people into beasts. You can't make him give it up, though. I wish he could get into a 12-step program, but it will be up to him. In your shoes, I'd get another magic jack and toss out the first one after cancelling that account.

If he hates you, I would think he would be the one breaking all connections. Why does he continually call someone he hates?

But since he isn't being logical, you should be. Change phone numbers. If you want, you could give the new phone number to his caregiver, in case of a drastic change in the situation (if you would want to be notified).

He doesn't really have a "caregiver," he has a girlfriend who lives nearby who has cancer, and my brother, who has POA and stops by every once in awhile. I was turned away at the security gate when I tried to go see my father.
