My Dad has had VA health insurance for 8 years. He does not receive VA disability payments or anything. Now we want to apply for some HHA benefits via Aid and Attendance program. He is upset because his prescription payments went from zero to $8.00 now, because VA found a "retirement account" with $4,000. He says they think it's a retirement account, but it is a mutual fund account that was transferred somehow. He thinks if he moves money out now, his copayments will go back to zero. He thinks the Aid and Attendance program will have a copay like his medications do, so he won't let me call about it. Are there copayments for this Aid & Attendance program? Won't the VA need proof of where the money went-and aren't there specific valid reasons like paying for a pre-paid burial, etc.?
