Mom has congestive heart failure and an enlarged heart among a host of other medical issues. She goes to see cardioligist this Thursday. She has been having trouble breathing, I have said we need to go to the hospital. She refuses. She believes that if she goes to hospital she will never come home again. Which hard to say, but, I know the end is near and I dont want to watch her suffer anymore than she already does.

Anyway my question is this: If they send her to the hospital to get some of the fluid off of her with IV lasix, how quickly will it come back on?
And if they decide to put her on oxygen will that help because of all the fluid build up?

If she is having problems breathing, it is more that likely Pneumonia. My dad was the same way and we just lost him. As you know, by treating the kidneys, it hurts the heart. It is a double edge sword. From my understanding, no IV...none at all! They would inject the LASIK into a port that was already there. Wish you the best..

Thanks House! yes trouble breathing, standing up from a sitting position is enough to make her lose her breath. She has been declining rapidly this year. I do believe it is only a matter of time, and with her appointment coming up I just wonder is it worth putting her in the hospital? especially since it is somewhere she does not want to be!

Hospital can make them comfortable! Dad was so weak that he could not talk. Dad didn't want to go in the hospital but he was very uncomfortable, so he went. He declined in the hospital quickly! Just passed last week. :,(

I am afraid that is what will happen, we have been on her for a long time to go to the hospital. She always refuses because she doesnt want to die in the hospital, she wants to die at home.

Thank You. I do not know all there is to know but it would seem reasonable to have a Palliative or Hospice nurse on site to help so they may administer the meds. I am sure if you are polite but firm.....something could be worked out...!
Keep me posted and praying for the best!!

Dad and mom are at appointment this morning. Dad said that they have ordered a lung function test to check 02 levels.
Will update more when I know more.
I on the other hand am a nervous wreck sitting at work waiting to hear what is going to happen.

I can totally understand. It is so tough. Deep breath, prayers...what ever gets you through it! Mom had ALS, has been gone 11 years, my parents were taken young.

Just be there for them, let them know how you feel and how much you care! A few little words can go a very long way!! :)

I will be praying for you my friend! God Bless
