I am a resident of MN. My father is a resident of MS. He is hospitalized in MN. He wants to stay in MN to be close to his children. I am a CNA and my husband is a LPN. Can he live in our home and can I be compensated for caring for him in our home as I would have to go on leave from my current job to do this. He cannot afford nursing home care and I cannot afford to give up my wages.

Sewmomto14, you can be paid to be a caregiver for your Dad if your Dad is able to pay you.... you would need to put together an Employment Agreement to have in case later down the road your Dad needs help via Medicaid [which is different from Medicare] with his housing cost at a nursing home.

Another suggestion would be for your Dad to be accepted by Medicaid and live in your home. Depending on your State Medicaid programs [each State is different] you could be paid by the State, but note that the pay would be minimal. And you might find yourself being on leave for many years depending on your Dad's age related issues. My parents lived into their 90's.
