What I did was I just casually started to clean it.....a little here, a little there, so as to not make it too obvious. My mother was delighted and thanked me for it! I remember going after her cupboards one day. Just take the area of the most pressing need----say the refrigerator, for example. And start wiping it out, trying to be natural and casual about it. Like...."Oh I see a few crumbs here....I think I'll wipe them out...." And then wipe a larger area at the same time. and so on like this.
