My mother lived with me for 11 years. She passed away 5/2013. I understand the tax law to say that she would need to live with me for half of the year and I would pay the majority of her expenses. Can I claim her and be head of household or do I claim single? I'm getting conflicting information. Thanks for your help.

Head of Household means you have a dependent. If she died in May 2013, she did not live with you for half the year. You also cannot claim her if she was on Medicaid or had more than $3900 in income. See a tax consultant before you get in trouble.
