My mother was just approved for longterm care by Medicaid (in NYC). Now I have to choose a provider from a long list. Ack! I have to have this in place by 4/15 in order for coverage to start in May. Where to begin??

I chose one, on the advice of our home care agency, and she has been approved for 24/7 home care, which she has had since September, and will now be covered by Medicaid. This is GREAT news, as we have spent tens of thousands of dollars out of pocket until now. I feel like we just won the lottery. The nurse who came today was a very stern Russian woman who basically interrogated us and checked every inch of her apartment. At one point, she asked my mom if she slept thru the night. She does, most of the time, but not always, and she cannot get out of bed by herself at all. The nurse seemed like she might not approve her for 24/7 care because she slept thru the night!! Like you're supposed to leave her alone for 10 hours and hope there's not an emergency? I flipped out. Fortunately, she came around and it was approved. PHEW.
