Recently we had a window visit with my mom. It was two of my sister's and me. It was the first time seeing her since February. She was talking about dying (another post!) But also said she was giving up her checking account. She physically handed us the checks. I have the main account (which pays big bills, taxes etc) as her trustee. She has a small account that allowed her some freedom. One day ago I noticed a small check written three days after she gave us checks. Then my sister said Mom had written her a check for $500 when she really meant to write it for $50. Mom obviously didn't give us all her checks and doesn't remember saying she was giving them up. I have my two sisters as witness as well as the person from AL who gave us the checks.
How do I get the checks from Mom when I can't get into AL to get them? What is the best way to deal with this?

Have you spoken to the administrator of the place where your mother lives and advised them of the situation? Perhaps they can help

I can't know how much your Assisted Living is willing to do here, but I would call the administrator. This has happened in a similar manner for someone I know, now unable to months due to fall, rehab, catching covid, rehab again, to return to rooms at ALF. They were good enough to go in, make a search and secure on several things, search up glasses, and etc. And now in fact are so good that they are moving him lock stock and barrel to a sister facility. These people are bonded to work in this manner and can enter the rooms. They can say they are there working at cleaning, divert or remove her to activity, and make a search. In lieu of that, you may have to approach your bank. I think your luck will be better with ALF. Good luck.
