My husbands MRI showed innumerable chronic lobar micro hemorrhages. Will this be causing vascular dementia? And since Chronic it is happening all the time even now that he is back on his blood pressure medicine and diet change. MRI also showed amyloid.

When my mom had an MRI her GP told us it "lit up like a Christmas tree" and sent mom off to a neurologist whose focus was stroke prevention. When her health took a sudden decline both physically and mentally I was left searching the web for answers, I'm 99% certain she had vascular dementia, specifically multi infarct dementia, although no medical professional ever gave us any diagnosis. Push for answers, and make them take the time to explain what all those expensive tests really mean.

Be aware that MRI with contrast has dangerous side effects. The contrast agents are toxic. Is the contrast agent really going to show any more important information than the MRI without contrast? Whatever the contrast agent shows, is it something that can be treated or prevented? Can using the contrast agent give any information on how the disease will progress? Is the contrast agent going to definitively confirm a diagnosis for insurance coverage purposes? Ask the doctor these questions.

Does ur husband have any kidney problems. They could not use contrast dye on Mom because she only had one kidney working at 50%.

"Depending on your exact case, your doctor may request the use of a contrast dye to enhance the results of the test. While the tests and contrast dyes used are generally safe, the contrast eyes may lead to the development of kidney problems or cause problems in patients with kidney disease.Sep 15, 2019"
