Porchpickles, we weren't able to attend this past Monday, we lost track of time.... but have marked our calendar for May 12th. My significant other and I thought we would give the group a try.

porchpickles, thanks for the update. The support group at the church is right down the street from me, just minutes away. I will see if I can attend tonight, if not, then will try for May 12th.

Join Evercare's Caregiver Support Group held the first Tuesday of each month. The group will be facilitated by Judy McKay-Shokoor, LCSW.

What is Evercare's Caregiver Support Group?

A safe, unstructured environment that is encouraging, nurturing and confidential, led by a licensed social worker.
A supportive group where you can ask questions, compare challenges and speak with others who identify with your experience.
Learn from a professional and each other, including ways to handle the expected and unexpected challenges that arise when caring for a loved one.

Here's info on a telephone support group: Fairfax County’s free Family Caregiver Telephone Support Group meets by phone on Tuesday, May 13, 7-8 p.m. Register beforehand at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dfs/olderadultservices/caregiver.htm.

freqflyer......i talked to debbie,at 1089 liberty meeting road, in herndon.....they have a support group meeting tonight at 5 p.m. to 6 p.m....next meeting is may 12th...then they might close for the summer...she said she will let me know if they decide to do the meetings once a month for the summer...again, this i s dranesville united methodist church.

thank you freqflyer.......i found a church called dranesville united methodist church, with a woman by the name of debbie....no response as yet.....last year she advertised a support group for caregivers on mon. evenings at this church...hope one of us can get thru to them and find out more info........

porchpickles, I live in Sterling and I also have been looking to see if there are any caregiver support group.... I think it would be great if there was one where we could exchange ideas and to be able to vent.

Let me know if you find one, and I will do the same for you.

Try calling a non-profit social service organization in your community or your local Area Agency on Aging.

If that doesn't work, go to your state website. Type the name of your state and the word "aging" in your browser. You should see quite a few links. Look for caregiver support. Every state has a version of the National Family Caregiver Support Program though it may have a different name. These people can be very helpful when you have questions about resources in your community. While you're at it you may want to explore the other links on the page. Often, there's more support than we are aware of, but so much depends on the state where you live.
