that's true. I don't like surprises. However i understand that their kids are generally very busy at work so sometimes it is hard to find a time and a place to meet. So i thought it is not a bad idea so that the hiring process is much faster and easier for us. maybe i'm wrong.
Possibly for an initial interview, but I would wonder what they were trying to hide. Before accepting such a position I would insist on visiting the home and meeting the patient. I don't like nasty surprises!
