I feel trapped in the house with my mother as she cannot go out in this extreme below zero cold. I am bored with TV, reading..etc..any hobbies you have that may keep me sane also? And if you do, what are they? thanks..

Oh man, I just read that you live in Ohio? Geez sorry about that. Here in Oregon we complain about it being 30 degrees for too long, so we would all just curl up and die if we had the weather other people are dealing with in your neck of the woods. I have literally NO idea of what it would be like not to be able to get out of the house for days on end, just kill me now. As far as activities... hmm.. count your freckles, braid each others hair, food fights, smash the computer (I feel like that most of the time) paint each others toe nails? Well as you can see I'm a wealth of information and ideas for you. What I can tell you is.. THERE'S A GLOBAL WARMING GOING ON RIGHT?? ha 'this too will pass' Take care. Nancy

Got a box of old photos hanging around, start scrapbooking. Go to websites that can teach you step by step how to crochet or knit. Start a journal about your day to day experiences as a caregiving. Start planting seeds indoors for spring gardening. Learn gourmet cooking techniques from sources online. Youtube has great videos for learning just about anything. Reorganize the space around you, set up a file system, deep clean the house room by room. Play board games and cards with your mother. Use music in the background as you go about utilizing these suggestions and allow as much light inside as possible.

Thank you Debralee, I will try those things. I try to play uplifting music or CDs. Just to have it in the background helps my mom be more calm. I do need to do starter seeds for spring gardening. thanks for the tips again!

If your camera is digital and you have a few gazillion photos in files somewhere, work on digital scrapbooks. It doesn't take over your dining room table for months on end, there is nothing to put away and cleanup after each session, you can eat or drink while you do it without fear of a disastrous spill ruining photos, and the end result is awesome. I'll never go back to traditional books. Right now I'm using Picaboo and I'm pretty satisfied with it. I've also used Creative Memories, Walgreens, and Shutterfly. Lots and lots of places offer printed books from your pictures and you can put in minimal effort or do elaborate creations. You don't have to go shopping or stop when you run out of adhesive in the wee hours. A bonus is that your mother will probably enjoy your end products. A great hobby when you are stuck indoors!

capn, You made me look up those rolls on google. Gosh do they look good and I can only imagine how good they smell baking. *tummy rumble* It's getting down to -19 here in MN with windchill values to -40, so I guess that pretty much rules out a quick run to the store for some baker's yeast. Will definitely try my hand at making them in the future.

ElderlyandADHD, Since you enjoy seed starting, I recommend checking out the winter seed starting forum on gardenweb.com. I've spent a lot of time there in the past. It's fun to dream of spring so I check out a lot of the garden retail spots on the web too with all the beautiful flower and veggie picks. Now is the time I like to start planning next spring's garden.

Boring me has also cleaned out and rearranged all of the kitchen drawers. It was amazing the amount of worthless stuff clogging up the junk drawer. Cabin fever indeed!

Hang in there! Spring's a coming!

I know the feeling! The only thing I ever get out to do is take my mom to her many doctors! Oh and I get to grocery shop sometimes-although I do grocery shop online and get it delivered. I have started weight training to get in shape for summertime-haha! But seriously daily exercise does help ease some of the stress.I escape to the basement for 'me time'( or anywhere my mom can't follow me)like upstairs to my bedroom to read-of course it's not long before I start hearing my name being called! But winter time is long and tedious. We also watch lots of movies and game shows(mom gets too "lost" watching movies. Sometimes I just surf the net for stuff to read etc. Hope that helps.
