For the last 8/9 years, I have been taking care of my friend full time, I do not get paid for it. I suffered an ankle fracture and now we both need help. Her son lives with us but he has serious medical problems. Liver transplant survivor, diabetic and he goes to dialysis 3 times a week for 5 hours. He is medicated most of the time. We need information about getting help. I joined the Meals on Wheels program, but we can not cook. THANKS!!!

Contact you local social services for an assessment as to available assistance you might be eligible for. Perhaps one of your doctors can script for in home service provider to do an assessment. Medicare normally takes care of these charges. Do you have friends/family that could help out a few hours a day?

My heart goes out to you during this difficult time. I too am a caregiver and when I had surgery earlier this year, I had the most difficult time sorting out how my family and friends could help me care for my son who is special needs. I was told to look into a patient advocate service. Services offered through the company I work for CarePartner , can call to local resources in your community, including home care (cooking and light housekeeping, help with changing/bathing/dressing), county services including transportation and Meals on Wheels delivery. I would suggest you call and speak with a nurse on staff to assess your needs. Our team would be happy to help in any way possible. My thoughts and prayers to you as you sojourn through this tough time. You don't have to do it alone.
