Is your friend wheelchair bound? If yes, there are wheelchair van taxi services, but they are costly. The patient remains in their wheelchair, the back of the van opens and a ramp comes out, the patient is pushed into the van, and the wheelchair is locked.
Or is your friend bed bound? If yes, there are Transport services that will come out, the transport is a private ambulance, now these transports are expensive, you would need to check to see if his health insurance would cover the cost.
I would explore what transportation options you may have available, before you bring him to your home. Mobility is an issue and it depends on what coverage you have and also, what resources you have in your community as to how affordable the transportation is.
In my area in NC, there is a service that provides excellent transport for those who are wheelchair bound. It's a van that moves the patient into the van while sitting in his wheelchair and the cost is VERY low. A family member is allowed to ride too with no extra charge. Like $5.00 per trip within the county, HOWEVER, the scheduling is challenging. You have to have an appointment and you have to be prepared to be gone all day. I mean, pack a lunch and beverage, because if they drop you at your doctor appointment, they may not return to your area until later that day, so you may have to wait for hours to get a return ride home. It's not always like that, but they warn you it could happen. Most ill and injured people don't have the patience for that kind of waiting.
If he's bedbound, that's much more difficult and the expense is great. Is he on Medicaid by any chance? You might explore to see what inhome services there are for the disabled if they are being cared for in the home. A caseworker might be able to offer more info.
