If your husband has dementia or Alzheimer's you can call and get a respite grant. There are other local programs.

LYNNRN, Please call your local "Area Agency On Aging. They know all the resources in your area and what you may qualify for. If he's a vet yes by all means get him aid and attendance benefits. I did a blog post on how to apply. We got moms benefits in 3 months. Hope this helps

If your husband is a veteran, he could qualify for a sitter to come in and look after him. Vets can get up to $1800 per month. If you are the sitter, you might be able to qualify as his caregiver - not sure. We have a caregiver that takes up all of my mother's money.

Check your insurance, sometimes they may cover an aide who can at least come in each day. also google "senior options" in your area. in my city (Columbus, Ohio) you can sign up for a program where you/your parent can get help with meals, yard care, etc. some may go through health insurance, some may work on a sliding scale, and some may be volunteer. I hope this helps.
