Mother has Kaiser and tried to find out appointment information over phone and they would not release information with me. I'm on record with Kaiser as a caregiver and there is a release on file that I can make or cancel appointments. Mother stated that someone had called but could not remember when or who and cancelled the appointment. She could not say why they cancelled or if a new appointment was set up. She is in assisted living and with COVID there is a lot of issues taking her out and setting up taking her out.

Call Member Services and explain the situation. They can check to make sure you have the correct authorization in the system and either fix it or let you know if there is anything else you need. That said HIPAA specifically allows providers to share appointment dates and times under the minimum necessary standard for treatment (but not the purpose of the visit).

Like worried said, I would make sure every doctor had my Mom sign the necessary paperwork saying I have permission to discuss her medical. If she has Dementia, then you need to provide each doctor proof.

Call Kaiser and tell them what you told us, tell them you do not now know whether your Mother has an appointment with them or not, and until you do know you cannot bring her. Good luck.

Being on record as caregiver Isn’t an authorization to release information to you. Your mother needs to sign a HIPAA release form.
