My Mom is 79 yrs old. Always healthy. Got C-Diff from UTI , use of cypro antibiotic. She has been in the hospital for 2 weeks. They used the 2 common antibiotic's and now on a new one called dificid. Anyone know about what to expect?

My dad developed C-diff 4 months ago. He has had recurrences several times with the same antibiotic used. About 2-3 weeks he has another bout after it clears up. Fecal translplant was talked about by my dad declines that so we are now trying dificid, another antibiotic. I bring this up here because it is ridiculously expensive and if it doesn't work, not sure what else can be done. In the last 6 months, has anyone here heard of it working and stopping the c-diff? Yes, he has been on probiotics as well.

Gosh, you learn something new every day! I did some research on this FECAL TRANSPLANT, and it seems a viable option for people who have suffered this horrible and repeated and often life threatening ilness of C-diff! Thanks EaseLiving!

STAYSTRONG57, I'm so sorry your Mom has been suffering from this chronic problem, and I wish I had something to suggest, other than to stick with it, and follow her Gastrointestinal Dr's treatment plan! Good luck, and I hope your Mom gets better!

Glad she is/was on a probiotic. Yes, fecal transplants seems quite promising, but I'm not sure that they are FDA approved yet, meaning that there might be a question of insurance coverage. Has a fecal transplant been suggested by her healthcare team?

Fecal transplants can be very successful in treating C Diff. (sounds odd I know - but I've seen it work!)

My mother, in her 90s, got over c-diff. It is a long struggle and I'm not sure it is always successful (I just don't know) but it is possible.

I don't have an answer but want to bump this up. I know it can be a long road to get over C-diff.
