Find Care & Housing
I use greatCall 5 Star splash. It is waterproof. Can be worn as a pendant or with a wrist band. Best part is they can track wherever you are, if they have service in that area. I'd pressed the button once, while driving, by accident and within a very few minutes an ambulance pulled up to me.p, because I hadn't answered when they answered my page. Do need to have recharger portion close to bed so that it can be recharged overnight. You do have to pay for the unit plus a monthly fee. It is recognized by the AARP Assoc.

I think there are 2 types basically-- 1 is A monthly rental (you never own it) and the other is where you do own it. The disadvantage of renting is it more expensive, and after you die, your Executor has to return it asap, because the rent continues to be billed, until they receive the unit back. With an outright purchase, you never have to worry about returning it, and your Executor can donate it to someone else. There are several purchase types available and they cost about $230, which is far less.expensive than a rental of $50/month.

I got service from "Acadian On Call" for my mother. They have every option available and all of their emergency operators are medically trained. They're also month-to-month with NO contract. You can cancel any time. Very affordable, very good terms of service. With Acadian On Call the medical alert system and waterproof button are free, you just pay the monitoring fee. They also have an option to get the automatic fall detecting pendant if falls are a big concern for your loved one.

Since my April answer, my parent has passed away, and I am so glad that I had already returned the Phillips Lifeline system. But I have to say, it took about 3 months to get their billings stopped! I returned the unit, but it took them a month to acknowledge that it was received. Then it took another 2 months to stop the billings. Then, since they had auto-deducted for 2 months that were after the unit was already returned, there was a credit on the account, but they could not just auto-credit the extra payments. They had to cut an old-fashioned check....and that took...another month. So, be very wary if you do have one of the rental systems, it will take someone a lot of time to keep track of returning it and making sure there are no extra payments deducted from your bank account.

Wow, sorry to hear Phillips Lifeline treats customers so poorly. When I returned the "Acadian On Call" system my billing was stopped immediately and the months I paid ahead were promptly refunded within a few days, it was really nice.

Phillips was one of the providers that I researched and rejected, based on the complaints against it, as Mallory discovered.
