Mom is 84, mentally sharp. Physically she has circulation problems in her legs, (weak heart), her feet are blueish and she has very little feeling in them making it difficult for her to feel where she is planting her feet. I worry she will fall and break a hip or something. She likes independence but to the point she cannot walk in the stores, shop, limited to what she can do around the house. I now have her at my new house I have yet to move to one block away- all single-level to make things easier for her. However, I just retired and didn't plan to become her full-time care giver. She craves attention and finds reasons to keep me running. I'm one always looking down the road. She overheard me talking to my sibling about assisted living in the future- there is a nice one at the end of our block. She got very offended, said she wasn't going to a "nursing home". I tried to explain it is not. However, she would get the assistance and attention she craves. Ugh. Maybe I'm just sounding off. It pains me when someone thinks only of themselves and not how it affects others. I lost my wife to cancer 2 years ago, retired, and looking to a new chapter in my life but have very little personal time.

I'm thankful that my Mom realized that she wanted to be in AL instead of on her own (lonely) in her own apartment.

While my Mom complains about the incompetent staff (LOL) and other things, she certainly enjoys the company and friendships that she would never admit to.

With my Mom, I planted seeds about AL and over time was able to get to realize that it was her idea.  While this may or may not be feasible in your situation, it was just one way to facilitate the move.
