I work for an AL Community and per the resident agreement, prorated charges will continue until all personal items are removed from apartment.

My mom has to give 60 days notice when she leaves her independent living facility. She won't be leaving until she's gone, so I imagine she'll be paying for at least 30 days of non-residence.

An Assisted living facility is a rental unit, like an apartment. Your landlord continues to charge you rent even if you die. Your responsibility in AL is laid out in the agreement signed upon entry.

So sorry for the lost of your loved one.

Sounds like the lease at the Assisted Livinging complex was month-to-month. Some places will pro-rate the rent when someone moves in but rarely pro-rate when someone moves out, even in death.
