Asking the same question over and over for hours. What does this mean?

The nurse tried to help me understand but has anyone experienced this? My husband was hospitalized a couple of days ago. They say its his dementia. This is the first time he has done the question thing. So bizarre. I talked with the nurse then had to leave. It was driving me up the wall!! He is scheduled to go to rehab tomorrow. He still knows me but I think he is scared of what is happening to him. He is just 59. Dementia is from epilepsy. We went to the er because he could not comunicate. They had to sedate him because he was freaking out! It was so heartbreaking.

Thank you and yes its not a string of swear words thank goodness! I heard for hours "What am I doing wrong" "Hey wait a minuet, What am I doing wrong?" Tell me! What am I doing wrong" Next its was "What am I watching on TV"? for the next few hours. I turned the television off and he continued to say that for the next couple of hours.

This type of behavior goes with epilepsy, brain damage, dementia, etc. Apparently he has an irresistible urge to repeat what he sees or hears, a defect in the brain's repeat to learn mechanism. Try to see beyond the repetition to how he actually is feeling. Hopefully he's not repeating a horrible string of swear words. (knew somebody who did that). Hope he gets better soon.
