My father was just finally diagnosed with moderate to severe dementia with alzheimers and the doctor prescribed the lowest dosage of Aricept. she and I have read what the side effects "could be" but I was curious if anyone on here had a family member with any side effects? The doctor said that IF he experiences any of them to stop taking. (wow, he already has issues with not sleeping and that is a side effect/ half the time don't want to eat, gee another side effect).......I think we are up against a losing battle.

I am sure you are being funny (which Iknow we do have to laugh at some things) but I wanted a good answer. And the physiciatrist is the one who prescribed this and told us of some of the side effects. I guess I just wandered if anyone else had any issues.....so climb back up in your tree and eat your banana.

My mother experienced nausea. My husband had no adverse side effects.

My mother took it for a while and it made her - already short fuse - even shorter! She also seemed to have depression, so she decided not to take it. Her short term memory is getting worse, but I am hoping it's a slow process.

wolflover451, no drug works exactly the same way for everyone and, wow, that is triply true for drugs for the mind. The only way you'll know how your father will react is to try it. The side effects that you mention would go away when you stop the drug, if they happen at all.
