I am a caregiver for seniors. My 91 yr old man has been drinking excessively and has had the paramedics over twice to help him from his fall. He is also in Hospice and 24/7 care. He trusts me more than the other caregivers as I have been with him longer. I would like to bring up the subject of his drinking in a sensitive caring way. He is depressed since his wife died 7 years ago and now his driving has been taking away.

Dear Rennie,

I know you care a lot, but at 91 years old, I don't think there is a good way to address this issue. Men are stubborn. My father was this way and no one could tell him anything.

I wonder if you could have his family doctor or a social worker address this issue with him. Or if you can begin by telling him, you care a lot and hate to see him this way.

I know its hard. I tend to think at 91 years old, I would let them be.
