For you or loved one who may be a senior. Guess it helped mom with sundowners. I remember just shadowing mom during the night making sure she didn't go down stairs, or anything else. we were basically up all night. Not fun.

Make sure they are tucked in comfortably, you don't need the person to be trying to get out of bed groggily and then falling. That was my main concern. Hard floors and brittle bones don't go well together.

If they sleep all night, you got it made. I finally found out to take my sleep aids right when I crawl into bed, and not any sooner. I will eat everything in the kitchen and won't remember doing so. I woke up one morning realizing that I squirreled a mouth full of trail mix. No wonder I have cavities.

Seroquel works beautifully for my FIL. Stopped his nightmares and allows him to sleep thru the night. His sundowners is pretty mild, but it helped with that, too. He’s on a very low dose.

It worked great for my mom and her sundowner symptoms. Gave it to her at about 4 each day. She was ready for bed by 7:30 or so. And most of the time she slept great.

Some, though, experience completely the opposite. My mom started on 12.5mg a day and was gradually increased to 75mg a day over t he course of three years.

If Seroquel does not work for her, then ask doc about trying a different med. It is trial and error.

I was offered this as a sleep aid. I'm not a senior and don't have dementia but I had a very bad reaction to it. I would not recommend it. So be cautious.
