I’m assisting an elder who just moved to AL and the management there immediately suggested this program. He already has Anthem insurance so it seems like a simple switch and then the nurses and doctors would travel TO him. He has serious mobility issues and few relatives close to him so it’s an attractive idea. Any of you have actual experience with this program? Thanks in advance for your insight :)

To clarify, he is on Medicare and this is a “special needs” program (Anthem MediBlue Care On Site - HMO I-SNP) designed for people on Medicare who live in nursing homes, AL communities, etc.

Jane, seriously, find an independent Medicare specialist, they can sell all companies, not just whomever they work for. They can help you find the very best options available and educate you. It will be well worth your time.

Best of luck getting this sorted out.

Thank you for letting us know what is going on.

I would check with your Office of Aging. They should have someone who can explain the plan to you.

Think twice if its a Medicare Advantage.

Hi JoAnn - turns out it is an Advantage Plan. Definitely has restrictions and it isn't part of his retiree group plan, so he wouldn't be reimbursed for Part B. I'm now looking at a different plan that his group offers (SCAN) which may work out better for him.

Is it an advantage plan?

I would contact a Medicare specialist insurance agent that is a broker. They can help you understand what is provided and covered and the co-pays, deductibles and such.

My dad had a Medicare advantage plan and he was not getting the care he needed because of his deductibles. I got him on regular Medicare with a supplemental insurance and the doctor came to his facility to care for him, no charge to him. They even sent lab techs for blood draws and mobile x-rays.

I have no trust in advantage plans because you have to use their doctors and you really don't have any choices.

We have Caremore facilities all over my town, so people must like them or they would not be so big.

When you figure it out will you come back and let us know? Thanx!
