Any experience out there on ability with dementia?

Abilify (aripiprazole) is not for dementia at all. Aripiprazole is used alone or together with other medicines to treat mental conditions such as bipolar I disorder (manic-depressive illness), major depressive disorder, and schizophrenia. Choosing the right meds and titrating them may require an inpatient stay. Ask the MD.

Thanks pamstegma. I know that. But mom had a physostic break about a year before dementia set in. Her neourologist diagnosed it and she was having hallucinations. About 7 years ago when her husband died. The hallucinations went away.A year later she was diagnosed with dementia. She took 2 mg for about 5 years. The psychiatrist who treated mom told us of the black box warning. But to ignore it. So I got with her primary and thru a compound pharmacy I've been able to very slowly tirate her Down ton1mg and she has been on that for about a year or a little less. Now I'm at .75mg. Will do this for about a month and then take her to .5 I'm on my own with this. But a lot I mean six to ten hours of reading and speaking with professionals of all kinds in the pharmaceutical industry. It just may be too late. Now after so many years. No heart recupercussions. But she has declined. I was just wondering if anyone else had this experience. Thank you for your comment

When I said speaking six to ten hours to professionals and reading. I meant daily.

OK, you are tittering down, but now the psychosis is kicking back up. I would go back to the psychiatrist and discuss rotating to a different medication.

Pamstegma. The phychosis is not kicking back up. She is down from 2mg for about 6 to 7 yrs to 1mg for about 1 yr and now .75 which I will leave her at for two weeks then .50 for two weeks. Then .25 for another two. I've also moved it to daytime so I can watch her. Thanks for your suggestions. All these decisions are so difficult aren't they
