August 23, 2016, I think I would try to find out why they are only wanting those soft foods. Perhaps their teeth or mouth hurts, or dentures don't fit properly anymore. Perhaps they are choking on other foods. Certainly they can live for a while on such a limited diet, but eventually the lack of nutrition will catch up with them. Try a multivitamin as well.
Seems like it would get boring after a while, see if you can find out the underlying reason.
If it's a decent quality ice cream with whole egg content, and whole milk yoghurt, and the apple sauce is properly made, not too sugary, and includes some ascorbic acid... well, you're not missing many major elemtents. Not what you'd call a perfectly balanced diet, no, but it could be a lot worse.
Keep offering a variety of alternatives, but I agree with Pam - what's the point of forcing the issue?
Sounds like my mother in law. I always figure let them have at least one thing in life they enjoy. Maybe swap to Greek yogurt- it's very high in protein . Give her gummy vitamins. They are yummy.
The biggest issue I see with just eating those three things is a lack of fiber. I agree with - why push things they can't or won't eat at this point, but a lack of fiber in a high dairy diet can lead to constipation which can leave the individual pretty uncomfortable. Can you mix in one of those tasteless powders like Benefiber into the yogurt and the apple sauce? It won't change the consistency of the food either. Rainman has a nightly double serving of yougurt with a heaping tablespoon of Benefiber mixed in at his doctors order.
