She is wearing Depends; she sleeps on a piddle pad; waking her up to go doesn't seem to help.Cutting back or eliminating drinks after 5:00 PM doesn't help. (That is not a pun!) What more can I do? Perpetual laundry at 4:00 AM is saping my strength. Do any of the myriad of chemicals (i.e., desmopressin, imipramine, anticholimergic meds) help? Could a gerontologist be of more help than her GP?

Welcome to caregiving! Sounds like you are doing all you can. One tip put some white vinegar in the wash, keeps smells out. Then put your sunglasses on and deal with it:)

If an alarm goes off when she wets the bed, she's still wetting the bed. I don't know what good an alarm would do.

Depends, pad.....there's really nothing you can do unless you want to wake up every 2 hours to take her to the toilet and even that's hit and miss.

Why do laundry at 4am? Throw it in a hamper and do it later in the morning.

In my experience this is just part of every day life taking care of an elderly person. I don't think there's anything that can totally eliminate bedwetting. You can cut it down some, but that's about it. I don't think I'd put an elderly person on even more drugs to stop them wetting the bed. They're on enough most of the time as is. I just sucked it up and loaded the washing machine every morning. Just another part of the work load. It saps us all.

Maybe others have ideas, but I don't think this is something that can be completely stopped.

Apart from home remedies and medicinal solutions towards overcoming bedwetting, the field of healthcare sciences along with the vast involvement and contributions of a number of scientists and researchers have now successfully provided us with the latest innovation of alarm systems but most of the alarm system

I do laundry at 4:00 AM because I'm up, have other responsibilities such as a job and maybe the hamper is full and the washer isn't. Your comment regarding the alarm is right on target. Thanks.

I agree it's a part of life. When you gotta go you gotta go.Holding it isn't good and cutting her down on drinking water isn't good either.Your trying to attempt to control something that's uncontrolable. There maybe medication to help control wetting the bed but, there's always a side effect as shutting kidneys downs too.If it's not broke don't attempt to fix it may make things worse.Be happy that's all she does it wet the bed.Things can be worse. My Aunt is 88 yrs old and Urines on news papers on the floor near her bed like a dog.She also, uses a plastic coffee jug as a tolet pan near her bed.She refuses to buy a real bedpan or tolet chair. Can't force someone to do a thing. What it is ,is what it is I guess.Sometimes I think elderly people Urine their bed and home just to give us a job to do as here take that! lol.

Is she on a water pill or a blood prssure pil with a diuretic in it? If so, is it given in the morning? Are the depends the correct size? Is the depend maximum absorbancy? Can you add a poise pad inside the depend to add extra absorbancy? You can use one pullup type depend and place a tab tape kind depend over it at night. You can use the bed pads and double layer so if goes through one layer during the night, you can take out one layer.
Sorry you have to go through this.

To reduce the laundry, have you tried rubber sheets? They make rubber sheets now that are comfortable and don't make that crinkle sound when you move around on them. That will at least save your mattress and mattress pad and make cleaning up easier.

It’s so frustrating, isn’t it? You have tried to do the best for her, but your hands are too short anymore. My husband is also alternating between loss of bladder control, and regaining it depending on his medications and some other physical conditions. In my case, it’s still better than what he and I and had to deal with when his doctor put him on Risperidone without any evidence of psychiatric incident. Back then, he completely lost both fecal and bladder control. What I did back then, and am now doing is to encourage him to do the modified kegel exercise, toilet training, and verbal assurance that “he is so fortunate that he can urinate. Some people are suffering from the difficulty of urination, and that other people are suffering from bed sore, and that he is so fortunate that we have hot water to clean the west-down shower right away.” Right now he is on the way to the recovery. I am not sure if he can completely recovered this time, but let’s hope…I wish I can tell you more. I sometimes hear my laundry machine squeaking due to heavy load and many time of use. I have him use underwear over the depends which helps the depends in the right place and prevent the leak to the bed. Up until one week ago, he had to go to the bathroom every 2 to 2 I hour, and so as I. I kept saying to him that we are the team; we are so fortunate that we are each other. I cannot afford caregiver. And so, whenever I am tired, I just close my eyes and take a nap as he does the same. Our house is a mess and very disorganized, but I do not care as far as he is safe and happy here. When my husband was in ER and alarm went off, he was physically psychologically exhausted and scared off of the alarm. I hope she is not like my husband. I do not want my husband taking lots of medicines and suffering from side effects. I hope you have some time to have a good rest. Take care.

Check the Internet for the president of Columbia urinating in his pants during a live speech.
No water pill involvement. Depends could be upsized. Piddle pad is used as previously mentioned and keeping her on it is quite a chore. Thanks for the thoughts.
