What would be an acceptable wage to pay an aide (for weekly bathing help) per hour?

As far as I'm aware, Medicare won't pay for personal care given by home health aides such as bathing, dressing and using the bathroom if this is the only care your dad needs. I think Terry makes a good point about hiring for one full day.

In addition to checking out agencies, ask for referrals from friends and neighbors who have home health aides. Home health aides often have colleagues looking for work or extra work because their situations can change suddenly when the person they're caring for goes into a nursing home or passes away. check with medicare and see if they will pay for a one-day service and have the person come in, clean his room, bathe him, and do his laundry. For one day, depending on which state you live in, it should be somewhere around $60 to $80 a day but you get all the work done that you would normally have to do. You will feel much better and less tired if you have someone do an 8 hour day getting him taken care. You should be able to deduct it on your taxes if Medicare doesn't cover it. check with all the agencies - elder care, Medicaid, medicare, and even call IRS and see what you can claim.

Try using no rinse products for cleansing and he won't even have to get into the tub area to clean up.

Pay them top wages. Much cheaper than the Nursing home at 9-10 grand a month. I'd say $30 per hour from an agency. Be really nice to the person too.

If he is home bound talk to his insurance my grandma gets a bath aid twice a week paid for through insurance, all they do Is bathing,

robinps, as Pam above had suggested, hire a bath aide from an agency. With an agency the agency is usually licensed, bonded, insured.

If you find someone yourself who is not from an agency, your Dad will need to get a workman's comp rider for his homeowner's insurance in case that worker hurts him/herself at your Dad's house. Those riders aren't cheap.

Here in Md my FIL just hired a bath aide from an agency $28 an hour 3 times a week. worth every penny to them
