Is this a safe resource? The number was on this website. It says it will help with information with nursing homes. They said they would send me some information and an adviser will call be back. Does anyone know if this is a safe place?

Just be advised that they are paid by the resources they refer you to if you go with one of the resources. So if there's a better facility in the area that doesn't pay them, you're not going to hear about it. That's my understanding. So do your own homework about checking out facilities.

Like blannie said, they are compensated by the facilities. It is overwhelmingly geared to private pay Assisted Living. They will share your contact information to AL's that are in your area that match up and they will contact you.

When first looking for my mom, I contacted them, as I live in another state. None of the places they suggested were suitable as what I was looking for was a "tiered" facility...the kind that have an IL, and an AL and then a NH with hospice and took Medicare (for hospice) & Medicaid (for NH). Eveything I got was private pay AL. My mom is advanced elderly (in her 90's) and really a tiered facility seemed like the best situation as she could - in theory - age in place and move from one level of care to another. (In an ideal world this would be the case, didn't happen.... but I did get her into a tiered facility in which the IL part was great for her for a couple of years, then she moved into a NH#1 for less than a year & is now in NH #2 & just went on hospice in June. She bypassed AL completely). No tiered facilities was on "places" list even though in my mom's city there are several, their list was all totally private pay and the more expensive AL. If that can work for you all, then it is a very good service to utilize.

I tried them out for my Mother-in-law. They were very helpful at the time...even telling me about possible assistance programs for her. I even used them to locate a place out of my state. Granted, they don't have a listing for EVERY place, but it is a good start, and they seemed to be very caring.

BTW, I tried them after seeing Joan Lunden on TV about them. She is a spokesperson for them....paid or because she used them, I'm not sure.

I also went through a place for mom when looking for a community with memory care for my mother. They were very helpful, sent me a list of communities in the area. From the list, I made appt. for tours. I specifically asked for communities in the town where I and my mother live.
