I did a tour of the new Agingcare website and I don't think I like it.

First and most important, my head got cut off in the profile picture, only the torso is showing. That's not very nice. At all. Looks are very important, even to a polar bear. It took me a long time to pose for that picture. haha

Second, when I see an interesting question or discussion, and don't have any relevant answer or comment to add, but would like to read what others have to say, I can just click "Follow" and that tread will appear on my Follow list. The new Agingcare website doesn't have it. Why? That feature is very useful for a newbie like me.

Third, I prefer the large blue font type of the old site. Much easier to read. The new site has light smaller font size on a light blue background. Not as easy to read.

Whoever in charge of Agingcare website, can you fix the above?

Thanks

The new thread also seems to have some delays.

I will try it three more times, if only to be sure that it really isn't anything like as user-friendly and it isn't just me being a change-averse old scaredy-cat.

I think I might like it after I’m adjusted to it. The other way things were set up left a lot to be desired and this will ultimately make my experience better.

I hope some of our members will not have frustrations switching over.

Hi Polarbear,
I'm sorry to hear you are disappointed with the new site. I'll report your concern about your profile image. I wanted to point out that a +follow feature does still exist on the new site. We realize it is a very useful feature, so it is still possible to follow all content, authors, and other members by clicking the plus sign. I'll also note your comment regarding the font color. If you would like to increase the size of the font, you can click the circle with Aa inside. That button is located on the page to allow you to choose an increased font size. Thanks for the feedback!

I like the new website.

How does one toggle back and forth? Once there, at the new website, there is nothing to get me back, like "click here to return to the classic website".

Some of my friends are afraid to try it, not only for this reason that I have just mentioned above, but who wants to get their head cut off? Poor Polar Bear. At least, you got all the paragraph spaces you needed!

Aging Care, do we really really NEED to put all the new questions in a box? Each one?

Uhm, your polar bear's head is cut off on the old website too, or at least it is on my desktop computer.

I think it's messy around the avatar. All of that print overlapping is messy and confusing. I'm not a "pro" computer user. I'm not a big time user either, so maybe it's good enough. I agree with the poster who found the print problematic. Also, agree on the slowness of the site.

How long are we going to be able to use the old site?

I know I ran into some questions and hopefully those will be figured out, posted those on another thread which was started by Aging Care.

The major thing for me with the new format is that you see 4 questions, then you need to go to the arrow to get the next four. After awhile that zipping makes me seasick. But I did find a way around it, but I worry about others who come on who have the same motion sickness issues, won't stay to learn the other way to get to the questions.

Then once again I ran into the issues of paragraphing... had paragraphs in the writing box, but later it was presented all scrunched together :( Since I still had time, I went into EDIT to once again create the paragraphs but it didn't work.... went back to EDIT and tried triple spacing between paragraphs, that didn't work, either.

Hi all,
Send, if you scroll all the way to the top while logged in as a member you should see the option to return to classic view, or leave feedback. If you don't see that please let me know what kind of device you are using.

Becky, realizing you are not a "pro" computer user ;-), I'm wondering if you know how to create a screen capture. If so, could you let us know where you are seeing overlapping text? That sounds like a bug that would certainly need to be addressed.

Please email me if you have further feedback and can send me a screenshot. kim.barnett@agingcare.com

The fact that you all are providing constructive feedback is really helpful. Thanks so much -Kim

OK...
I've found the old site to be intolerably slow on occasion, so far the new site seems to be performing pretty well for me in that regard.

I'm not seeing any weirdness around the avatars, the interface looks very clean and simple to me.

If I open both sites side by side I do notice that the font is bolder in the old site, I can see where that might be a problem on some devices, especially for older eyes.

I imagine most of the people who use AgingCare are over 45 and many are much older than that, so although we have had to embrace technology in order to function in today's world we often can't navigate changes as intuitively as those who've lived with it from the cradle!

I'm not seeing how to follow a thread without commenting ... I don't see a + sign anywhere?

Becky04473, just an idea, if you are using IE [Internet Explorer] to get onto the website, try using FireFox instead of IE. We ran into that problem with our own company website with verbiage overlapping onto each other. No problem when using FireFox :)

I am not a regular poster but I am a regular reader.

It was asked on another thread how the new site appears on other devices. 99% if the time I view the site on my IPhone 6s. It’s a BIG phone. Even though I am 57 I don’t need bifocals.

Viewing  Old site on my phone when I hit my profile, everything is right there. No tapping options at the top, no side swiping. I can work from that screen. All my options are right there. The font is such it’s like I am reading a book.

While the new site is modern looking and pretty, everything is huge! The options, to view questions or discussions , only one bubble appears on my screen at a time rather than a long list on the old site. Lots of swipe and searching.

The new site froze up on my phone yesterday.

I will also ask, how long will the old site be available?

I agree about the font and brightness making it harder to read. More contrast would be better

I also dislike the 4 comments only and having to click the arrow to get to the next four.

I like the current site where you can see your newsfeed and the recent community activity on the same page.

Information about who you are caring for and personal info has to be re-entered.

To me, the general appearance of the new site is pleasing.

I haven't used it enough to know if it is faster, but on initial impression it is.

I cranked up my laptop and logged in to new site. Found my way around.

The Laptop seems to be much more user friendly than trying to use my IPhone on the new site :(

Kim,
Using a kindle here, an elder kindle. It does not always work, especially lately, (internet issues, our server).
The return to "classic site" is working now.
I do have an Acer Chromebook laptop which works fine, speedy, etc.
However, I keep returning to my kindle because I know how to use it better.

Learning new things have been shown to keep a senior's cognitive abilities sharp, so I will keep trying. Thank you!

Lizzywho,
I need to get me one of those "cranktops" for when nothing seems to be working.

I had forgotten that the website use varies with the devices. I think that is called "cross browser compatibility".

Does anyone know how to stop following a thread on the new site??

I thought I saw that feature but I can't find it anymore, and some threads make me wish I had never commented.

Yes, CWillie,
Until AC fixes the entire "following" agenda,
Go to the old classic website and "unfollow" everything that you can click on!
Hurry now!

I find it really hard to change, so I'm going to stick with the classic site for as long as its available.:-)

Tried the new again, this time on my phone.

It's even harder to navigate than on my laptop since phone screen is much smaller.

Under Following, the was supposed to be a lot of topics that I either commented on or just followed, but no such list on the new site. So, i can't un-follow treads that no longer interest me.

Also, on my phone, the comments overlap with the up button making it hard to read.

If the classic site goes away, i won't be accessing the new site much since it's too hard to use on my mobile device. I don't use my laptop as much.

It is much easier to unfollow a thread on the new site. That option appears with each question. There is an unfollow option right below the question. I do not find a list of threads I am following, where they are all listed in one location.
(1)

OK this is weird, I DO NOT see the option to follow/stop following even though I was sure it was there in the testing period, in fact I think I commented I was pleased with the ability to stop following easily.
I'm using Firefox on a PC... anybody else?

And I don't like the new abstract avatars, they are all too much alike in shape and colour so they are indistinguishable at first glance.

Report

Something else I'm just noticing is that our news feed doesn't show how many new comments there are so I need to visit each thread individually (which admittedly I had been doing anyway because the tiny font made it hard to read). But it wouldn't be necessary if I knew there was only one new post since I could read that in the news feed.

For me, years ago I use to have email notification of something I was following. It became way to time consuming using that method so I signed off of the following and emails.

Now I just log into Aging Care and head straight for the forums, and just scroll down to see if there are any new original postings of interest to me. And if there are subjects I was following in my mind, then I would scroll through the list.

That is why I wish the name/screen picture of the original writer was still next to the original post, as I would remember that person and it made it easier to scroll down looking for that person's screen-picture.

I do tend to look for brand new postings that have no answers, and if I knew the subject I would dive right in. Same for postings with 2 or 3 answers. The exception are the human nature forums where there is a huge following :)

I haven't been back into the new format. I am just too comfy on this format :))

I’m not comfortable using the new format. I like the old format. I use may IPhone to check in when I have minutes. Now it’s too difficult to read.

I've found the way to "unfollow" - it is hidden in the three dots to the upper right of the questions on the new feed! Yay!

Becky, I don't get it that you are having more trouble on your smart phone, I thought making the site more accessible to people on hand held devices was the whole point of the changes 🤔
