Find Care & Housing
I live in a different state from my mom. I could never have done this without Amazon, along with Instacart… but my next biggest hurdle is communication with the AL. Definitely lacking… sometimes I don’t get responses to my emails… I’m in the process of moving my mom by me this month….

i have a wired notepad that I keep . In it , is all doctor contacts, pharmacy…..bank accounts , websites passwords / log in info. make sure you have your dads parent names etc as you may need that info for security screens

take photo of Medicare card, Drivers License, credit cards, social security card. Tape it in the notepad .

get everything on autopay. Do online banking.

just be organized

my notebook is an invaluable tool.

it can be done, I’ve been doing it for two years. Having an AL with a nurse practitioner or dr coming in ,is necessary as they age.

Make sure the facility admin and staff knows when this is happening and inform them that you'll be checking in with THEM more often (and not just quarterly care meetings). Ask if the staff will help with FaceTime calls with your Dad. If not, you may want to provide a second-hand tablet so this can be done.

One thing to consider is his physical health and condition. I would not wait too long to move him since traveling at advanced ages gets much more complicated. Long car ride, sitting for many hours. You certainly want to avoid a medical transport, as those are very expensive. Direct flights are great if your LO can manage it accompanied. I have a 99-yr old aunt with mod/adv dementia. At some point she may need to be moved from FL to my state, MN, to go into MC. She doesn't have any profound medical/physical problems other than mobility and incontinence BUT due to dementia she has no filter and says awful things constantly. I'm not sure I can/should take her on a flight. Driving her up would be extremely difficult. We'll see how things are if that day ever comes. Hope all goes well with your move!
