girlscout, you are not going to fool Medicaid. They reach back five years and if they see a lopsided Divorce financial settlement, they go back to the court and make sure the slice goes down the middle. I live in NY and the Judges here are not stupid. Since 2011 they (MERP) go after Life Estates too.

You need the advice of an elder law attorney. If you're thinking that one spouse can impoverish the other by taking all assets by divorce? I'm betting Medicaid's got that covered. At least I, as a taxpayer, hope so.
