How can I find a good new geriatric dr for my mom dr who I live is retiring in 2 mths and he gave no new dr for a referral which I found odd. Just sent a letter.

I just want to be sure the ones that I am looking for are in my network just to avoid problems down the road. (I do have Medicare as well as insurance through my retirement fund. (pay dearly for it as well) Then I search of ones that are taking new patients. There is also a "note" if they are a "preferred provider" There are also comments like "ratings" or comments from patients. I also narrow down by the number of miles that I am willing to travel.
Apparently no new doctor has taken over the practice of your doctor. Given that, doctors are sometimes hesitant in this time of litigation to make recommendations lest they be blamed for anything that goes "wrong".
You might first call the office and see if they will offer you a list. Some MDs just have no room for a new patient, and those would be wasted calls. In the absence of that speak with friends.
I hope that you aren't going to be down to the internet and offerings in your area; you would have to call to see if they are accepting patients. Do be certain that doctors are in your network if your supplemental insurance has restrictions on doctors and facilities you can use.
