Go online and look up adultchildrenofalcoholics website & get her to a meeting in your area; they are WORLD-WIDE!. I am 79 and my therapist sent me to these meetings 3 years ago because I WAS a controller. I did not realize how obnoxious I was at that time but I have learned a new way to live & my relationship is improving with my family & friends. These mtgs. are only $1.00 each and it is for anyone from a dysfunctional family, not just an alcoholic family. We have to relearn appropriate ways of thinking and dealing with others because we were not raised in a normal household. If you go to one yourself first and read the 14 Characteristics listed on the website, you will begin to understand. We are never too old to learn and I am soooooooooo grateful for this incredible program!!

It's unfortunate that other family members aren't involved. I can understand your hesitation. Moving, especially to a new place later in life has to be difficult. Sounds like your parents really need to get involved, do they go to a senior center? volunteer? This would be a great opportunity for both of them. They may think if they move closer to you that you and your son will spend all your free time with them. Make sure they know you have a full schedule and won't be spending so much time with them. Family issues are the worst. If they both become engaged with other activities, they may realize they don't want to move after all. Good luck.
