Your dear wife is in a really bad spot. This must me tremendously upsetting and inconceivable to her.
I think you need to hire someone to come for 8 hours THREE days a week. You need some respite care yourself. Being a FT caregiver is debilitating. I bet she enjoys the company of a different caregiver too.
Often when we try to do things on our own, we overlook many of the 'signs' that the loved one is sending out.
First a GP, then an EAR guy, then some assessment ---for both of you.
Bless you for sticking with her!

nfuehner, I agree with the others on this forum, after a fall your wife should have seen either her family doctor or have gone to urgent care. The fall could have loosen up harden ear wax and maybe caused it to relocate in the hearing canal. Worth having checked out.

Curious, did the dementia happened after the fall? Losing one's hearing can be difficult for the brain to learn how to communicate, and makes some people think that person has dementia, when they don't.

What other health issues does your wife have, as being "deaf" doesn't call for around the clock care. Let us know, as that will give us more information to help guide you.

I hope you can take her to a medical doctor who specializes in hearing loss. Today's hearing aids are a modern miracle.

Other than suffering from total hearing loss, dementia, and needing help 24/7 with all of her daily needs, your wife is doing great huh? 🤔

Take Geatons sound advice, first off, and then contact a caregiver agency in your area. You can also ask for such help on the right side of your computer screen here at Aging care.

Good luck.

"...after a fall has lost all of her hearing..."

After she fell did she go to the ER or her doctor? Falling doesn't make one suddenly lose their hearing in both ears, so it may be a comprehension issue from a stroke (that made her fall) or a head injury from the fall.

Knowing as many facts as possible helps to guide solutions. If she didn't have any medical attention after the fall you should consider it now.

Contact your local area's Agency on Aging for resources and information about caregiving options nearest you.

This not an employment site. It is a caregiver support forum. To get help you will need to contact a local homecare agency.
