Do i need to pay the 600 spendown now 9r later

You have been posting since 2020 about Mom having a fall. Is this something new or from 3 yrs ago. One post said Mom was sent home.

Is your Mom now in a nursing facility with Medicaid paying for her care? This would mean that her Social Security and any pension she receives is going to her care. A very small amount would be going into a personal needs account. She should have no assets to spend down unless her PNA has taken her $600 over the asset cap level allowed. If so, you need to find a way to spend that $600 on Mom.

If you are trying to get her on Medicaid for care in a NH, again, you have to spend anything over that asset cap on Mom.

If this is not what you are talking about, we need more information.

I'd like to make suggestions about your Mom's stay in rehab after breaking her hip. Your profile says she's 92 but doesn't mention dementia, so if she has all her cognitive abilities, this is good since rehab is not the same as an AL. You will need to watch her for a UTI, which is a very common problem during hospital stays. The symptoms can be delerium, confusion, sudden behavioral changes.

If your Mom does have dementia, you will need to make sure she is getting enough food and liquids since the staff is not there to feed her, especially if she's uncooperative. This is what happened to my Aunt with dementia: she fell at home and broke her hip high up by the ball. She was 100 yrs old and passed away at the rehab after 1 week because she wouldn't eat or drink and possibly because she might have passed a clot from the break which is a very real risk with that injury.

Your question and profile are confusing with missing info. If you are wondering if Medicaid takes her SS check? Well yes, in a way. It is used for her portion of her custodial care. Sort of like rent. She will only receive about $50 each month for her personal items such as haircuts, toothbrushes and clothes. You are not responsible for her medical bills. If you were depending on her check and she is no longer living with you, then I suggest you take on a tenant.
