ethelbird, If she has mobility and is able to safely work her cooking appliances you can consider home delivery of groceries and also high-quality frozen meals that are microwaveable. You or your son can arrange this for her online if someone can pay for it. I used Gourmetkitchen.com for my aunts in FL and they were happy with the flavor, quality and variety. They come frozen and are all in one meals, with a choice for different types of dietary requirements. My MIL had MOW and the food was ok, better than nothing. It should be supplemented with fresh foods if at all possible, like veggies and fruits, etc.

Ethel, also contact the Senior Center in your mother's area.   I don't know if they're continuing to deliver now, but that's how I got MOW for my father.  They're probably affiliated or work with larger service organizations, but they're the point of delivery - they manage the program, get the meals through Gordon Food Service, and arrange for deliveries.

Depending on the size of your mother's community, the Senior Center may also have transportation available.   The one in my father's area had 2 small buses.   My own community is moving in that direction, with one bus but it's only available for a few hours daily.

The larger, more sophisticated and more appropriately staffed ones usually have better and more extensive services available.

Good luck!

Call your local Area Agency on Aging and tell them that you want to set up Meals on Wheels for your mom.

This is not through Medicare. Medicare is medical insurance, not a social services agency.

The AAA can inform you about the social services available to elders in your county. Good luck!
