Made the mistake of moving my mother into my home just prior to covid, that is another topic entirely. Current fixation is bugs. She sees bugs everywhere and claims she is being bitten regularly. Suffice it to say if it's not bugs it is something else, always a problem. Has anyone ever encountered a bug fixation and HOW did you deal with it? We exterminate REGULARLY inside and out and the outside was just completed last week. As soon as she discovered the outside extermination was complete she claimed that all exterminating outside did was drive the bugs INSIDE. Dear Lord I can't win.

I should also explain that my mother is also fixated on other things. Imagined allergies to everything and food sensitivities to anything she reads the ingredients on are some of the biggest problems along with refusal to take medications. Her doctor recently warned her about being "let go" as a patient. Sadly she's managed to be let go by 2 previous doctors because she is so difficult.

I'm struggling to not lose my mind. If anyone has any suggestions on how to better cope with an imagined fixation/non problem problems, please share. PLEASE.

Get a spray bottle with water in it. Label it with something that says it's bug spray and let her go at it.

Also get her seen by a psychiatrist.

Your mother needs to be seen by a geriatric psychiatrist.

These are delusions. There are medications that can help.
