In the nursing home setting, some of the more common medication errors include: overmedicating, failing to consider to drug interactions, not dispensing medications as prescribed by the doctor, and incorrect medication dosage. If you suspect there is a problem with medications that your elderly loved one is receiving in the nursing home, speak to the head nurse and then the medical doctor on staff and the administrator of the nursing home. If administrators continue to ignore your concerns, contact the Department of Health or a local attorney who specializes in elderly advocacy.
