The Caregivers’ Guide To Medicare Open Enrollment

The Annual Medicare Enrollment Period begins October 15 and ends December 7.

Medicare Open Enrollment is the time of year when seniors can sign up for Medicare Advantage (Part C) or Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage (Part D).

Medicare doesn’t cover all medical expenses, and seniors often find themselves paying out-of-pocket for many of their healthcare expenses. However, private insurance plans are available to help cover the cost of what Medicare doesn’t pay for. A Medicare Advantage Plan (like an HMO or PPO) sometimes called "Part C" and Prescription Drug Coverage plans (Part D) are offered by private companies approved by Medicare. Open enrollment is the time when you can select a new plan, make changes to an existing plan, change prescription drug benefits, or opt out of private coverage altogether.
