my grandmother is 87 and has come to stay with us for the winter. we are trying to find a day program that she could attend maybe once or twice a week, transportation would be ideal. she gets around pretty good with a cane. she also still likes to cook!

the day center my mom attends requires a lengthy application, full medical report, financial statements, tour, interview, etc. Took us awhile to get things together...and yes it offers bus to and from the program, which runs between 9-3. It also requires regular attendance, not a drop in affair at all, and cost can run up to $100 day. Medical helped a lot of poorer seniors attend the program.

If she's still active, this sort of day program might be too restrictive. Perhaps she needs a regular senior center, sign up for a few classes, have lunch there, take Paratransit to/from if they don't offer bus service.
