My husband and I live with and care for his parents and also have a 2 year old. Any suggestions for us? Mom 73 Dad 81(with Alzheimer's)
Carol Bradley Bursack, Feb 24, 2010
Over the span of two decades author, columnist and speaker Carol Bradley Bursack cared for a neighbor and six elderly family members. Because of this experience, Bradley Bursack created a portable support group, the book "Minding Our Elders: Caregivers Share Their Personal Stories."
Make sure everyone has some privacy. That would be my primary concern - privacy. You need time as a couple, you need time with your child, and you need time with your elders. Plus - you'll want "everyone" together time. It gets to be a lot, as you already know, I'm sure. This will not get easier.
You should keep good records of expenses so if your parents-in-law go on Medicaid you have all the documentation you need. Also, if there are siblings involved, the documentation of expenses will be good for family peace.
Good luck with your arrangement, and please check in from time to time.Carol
